Woj bomb Adrian Wojnarowski reports the lakers, and jazz are expected to finalize a deal that would send patrick Beverley back to Los Angeles not with eclipse but with the lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a trade and no it's not the typical trade, that we've been talking about over the rumor mill all summer long, it's actually involving the Utah Jazz patrick Beverley, is not only on his second team this summer, but he's going back to lakers.
So i have to ask this question is the lakers acquiring patrick Beverley, is that going to be the trade that puts them over the top, clearly Beverley he cannot be the only lakers move that they make this year, if they want to contend with the golden state warriors out west they need to bring someone else in, would love to hear what your opinion is look i understand, what the lakers are trying to do they're trying to make the best out of LeBron James's final years in the nba, and there's no guarantee, that he'll stay a laker or even retire laker, so with that uncertainty in mind you have to understand rob Pelinka moving around some of the only assets that the lakers really possess, and they were able to use some of those without giving up draft picks to acquire Beverley, who in my opinion is a savvy veteran guard who brings that defensive tenacity and that winning mentality plus, he's also played in Lakers, before he can play under the bright lights like he did with the Lakers, clippers and they also gave up Stanley Johnson what you don't see is any draft picks, that's a win for the lakers and i can understand how lakers fans are a little sentimental right now everyone wanted Kyrie Irving.
But they really didn't take into account the unfortunate fact, that they had no assets to trade away so acquiring an all-star like Irving was always going to cost multiple first-round picks after that ruddy Robert trade, it just changed the way that the teams are trading this summer and especially as the market for star players continues to increase you have to understand, this was the best they could get and I think it was better than, what they thought they could have gotten makes sense look, I'm not saying Beverley is perfect, and he does have a shortcoming, but he also gives Los Angeles an edge and could help re-establish some of that team's camaraderie that's been missing since their nba title winning season.
And i don't care about this beat between him and russ under LeBron James that's going to be squashed but also you have to understand rob Pelinka, he didn't have the trade to draft picks to get Beverley which is an automatic win on his part, if i would have to grade the Utah Jazz in this case, i would give him a probably c-plus.
The jazz did get tht but thd hasn't proven himself, yet he has been a long-coveted asset of the lakers but again, he hasn't lived up to his full potential, maybe the lights were just too bright for the young guy in lakers, and you might see an increase in production, while he's with the jazz but that doesn't serve the lakers any purpose we all know that Utah is tearing it down, and they have yet to trade, away their best player in Donovan Mitchell, which in my opinion is rather confusing, let me know in the comment section what you guys think about that, i want to know and right now Mitchell, he has little to no help while.
The jazz they're collecting draft picks on the fly except in this deal, they received none of those said picks to add to their war chest, so you have to assume that Donovan Mitchell could still be on the trading block as far as the lakers trade grade, I'm gonna have to give him a b because right now there's still far more work to be done and at least this is a step in the right direction, you have to understand Los Angeles is showing a commitment to winning and in this trade they are getting a solid defensive guard, who really helps out on the perimeter right now, you have the lakers they need to make follow-up moves.
Then we could suddenly see a starting five that not only has bev but is good enough to contend for nba championships, rob Pelinka made a commitment to contending to LeBron James and this is following up on that commitment hence the big deal, that LeBron got a couple days ago and for all you, Talen Horton tucker fans out there even, if he ends up being a great rotational player in four to five years, Los Angeles will have no regrets as it was never gonna happen in lakers.
Anyway Beverley meanwhile can be part of something bigger this season, and if you're a lakers fan you count wins in championships, so in the comment section go down right now and let me know what your trade grade is for the Utah Jazz and for the lakers so that also leads me today's question how good do you think the lakers can be by adding patrick Beverley, can they compete for the top four top five spots in the western conference could they make it to even the nba finals or do you think that they need to add another piece to be able to solidify their spot against golden state in the western conference finals.
