Los Angeles Lakers have 14 players under contract at the time of this recording leaving them with one open roster spot, we're going to be talking about Josh Jackson who could be a candidate to fill that roster spot because at the beginning of free agency the lakers were looking to add athletic wing players like Juan toscano anderson who they ended up signing and Josh Jackson.
What's interesting about this is that Josh Jackson was the fourth overall pick in the 2017 nba draft, but he struggled a bit and now he still has not been signed by a team and maybe the lakers could be the team to take a chance on him as the lakers are going to need to take some flyers on players in this upcoming season because they need to take some risks if they're looking to get back to contention due to the current roster construction that they have now josh jackson is a little over an 11 point per game score for his career it's just the efficiency isn't great I mean he's below 30 from three barely above 40 percent from the field.
So he definitely needs to work on that, but he's an athletic wing he could play defense I mean if the lakers are looking to add another wing to their roster maybe Josh Jackson could be that for them he can't bring too much shooting but if he has a breakout year maybe you could see him have a decent year from three.
It'ss just interesting that Josh Jackson was the fourth overall pick not too long ago and now we see him not signed to a team this far into free agency another guy who's not with the team is Carmelo Anthony so what's been going on with melo well Carmelo Anthony currently it seems like he might just be waiting things out it looks like the nets could have some interest in signing him it was reported that the nuggets could look at signing him also the knicks had some interest so there are quite a few teams out there they could look to sign Carmelo Anthony in free agency and ultimately i think he'll be with a team in this upcoming season.
I'm just not sure that team will end up being the lakers it could be a possibility as he is still a free agent and the lakers have an open spot, but we've seen the lakers shift their focus to signing young players for their roster this off season so if the lakers were to bring in a guy like Carmelo Anthony that wouldn't exactly fit the direction that they've been taking so far this off season while signing a guy like Josh Jackson would fit that direction that the lakers have taken so far because these younger guys should be able to help the lakers more through the grind of a regular season.
Because if you get to a point like you were at last season where you have so many guys who you aren't playing in the rotation you've got veteran guys who you're relying on to play really heavy minutes and you're fighting for a play-in spot that's a really tough place to be in so maybe by adding some more young players to the roster the lakers can have a better year in this upcoming season.
