Why Cole Swider and Kendrick Nunn are important to the Lakers this Season

Welcome back everyone if you take a look at the Lakers roster there are two things that really stand out with number one being Russell Westbrook remaining on their team and number two being their lack of three-point shooting and while I'm not saying those the only things that stand out they are definitely two of the biggest ones and many fans are wondering why they continue to go unaddressed in regard to Westbrook that is a complicated issue to say the least it goes far beyond one reason alone.

Why Cole Swider and Kendrick Nunn are important to the Lakers this Season

And it's something they've been working on for quite a while now unfortunately though they've not been able to find a trade for him that they deem worthwhile making and For Better or Worse their new point guard death has likely made them comfortable beginning the year with them they have LeBron Patrick Beverley Austin Rivers and often forgotten player Kendrick Nunn who is coming off a long-term and rather mysterious knee injury other than LeBron though you can argue these most talented player between them and definitely in regard to their offensive ability he might be a bit of a wild card in regard to his health along with how he will look after missing an entire year but I do believe they're optimistic about Kendrick Nunn not only with him though but likely with Cole swider Too who is another guy who is not a part of the rotation last season and why these two will become a lot more important if Westbrook remains a laker, talking about Kendrick Nunn and like.

I referred to before he is a bit of a wild card for them I mean no one can say for sure what he will look like right away nor win's official return will be either nothing has been confirmed yet but if the words of Darwin ham and Jeanie Buss can be believed then he definitely appears to be in their plans during an interview about three weeks ago Genie Buss read name Kendrick known as the player to be excited about she mentioned LeBron Anthony Davis and then surprisingly Kendrick Nunn the main headline from Bao was her notable omission of Russell Westbrook and the fact that Kendrick none came to her mind before him is very noteworthy and That Was Then followed up by Darwin ham being complementary of Kendrick not as well following the introduction of Patrick Beverley to their team darb and ham conducted an interview and apart from talking about Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook which were the main players he was questioned about he made it a point to bring up Kendrick Nunn and much like Genie Buss he did it without even being asked about him either he sounded very optimistic about Kendrick Nunn,

And he quite obviously wants to make him a part of their rotation I know there is a lot of negativity surrounding him, but we need to realize how important he could be to their team and especially if the Westbrook experiment fails once again I mentioned their lack of three-point shooting before and Kendrick Nunn is one of the few players they have who can help with that as we know both LeBron and Westbrook are ball dominant players who need three-point shooting around them and especially if they are sharing the chord together in fact there are those that believe that Kendrick 9 could crack this starting line up from that alone and with him already having spent time as not ball combo guard in Miami it might not be a bad idea now they would be losing defense by doing that but then again they don't have a perfect solution here either Patrick Beverley is even smaller than Kendrick Nunn and then Austin Reeves cannot be relied on to space the floor I do think they'll end up going with Reeves anyway which will be fine if you end up improving as a three-point shooter.

But if he doesn't that could lead to Kendrick none getting more minutes and whether he is putting their starting lineup won't really matter both LeBron and West broke with a floors facing guard on the court with them and Kendrick non-fits that Criterion not only can he provide three-point shooting though, but he can provide much more scoring ability than anyone not named LeBron Anthony Davis or Russell Westbrook too because other than them he is the only one whose average 15 points per game or more on their entire team and that is noteworthy considering it came while playing for a very good team as well all of that makes him valuable with or without Westbrook on their team and it might be the without part that really makes them feel good about Kendrick none they will definitely try to make Westbrook more effective but if he once again ends up struggling then they might slowly face some of their rotation and even bench him during end of game situation and that would lead to Kendrick none feeling a bigger role for them which again is yet another reason for why you'll be so valuable to their team how a bell would cause sweater though it might seem like they're overlooking him with him still being on a two-way contract rather than their actual 15-man roster.

But I fully believe they have big plans for him too and that will remain true regardless of if they promote him or not because right now he is likely viewed as their best peer three-point shooter not only that though, but he provides it where they need it most too with that being a powerful word in today's NBA it's incredibly important to have a floor spacing board not that you need to have one in every lineup you create but you should have one within your rotation at the very least and that is only Amplified when you have one let alone two of the most ball dominant players in the entire league as they need three-point shooting around them to open up their offense I'm Ian 3.2 in general is very valuable but having it at power forward and Center can take bigger Defenders out of the paint and that can make life a lot easier on a guy like LeBron or Westbrook in addition to that having taller three-point Shooters can outright change the way your opponent matches up with your team as it requires them to put quicker and often shorter players from the core to defend them along the perimeter but for right now anyway cool spider is the only player the Lakers have like that a floor is facing forward can run around the court and knock down threes and a guy who can truly be regarded as not ball threat they have a number of players who can knock down three-point shots but very few of them actually demand attention on defense without the ball and given that many of them are average to even below average three-point Shooters on their career opposing teams will be more than happy to let them shoot although.

I do not believe that can be said for Cole swider barring him hitting a massive rookie wall he will demand attention the moment he steps on the court he may not have a big reputation yet but I guarantee he will be in The Scouting Report and other than Kendrick Nunn he is probably their only role player who will be mentioned when referring to three-point shooting now I do worry about him a little on defense but then again it's much easier to hide a player at Power Forward than it is a point guard and I'm not sure he'll have to be outright hidden either he definitely won't be a big contributor on defense,

But he's certainly athletic enough to hold his own and hopefully he learns how to do that sooner rather than later to wrap everything up here though I believe that Kendrick non and Coast fighter will be very important to their team both from a three-point shooting and overall depth standpoint too they can do things that very few if any other role players in their roster can do on offense and I think they'll lead to them feeling bigger roles than you might expect what do you guys think though what kind of role do you envision Kendrick non and call spider filling and how quickly do you think they will attain that role to let me know your thoughts by commenting down.
