Greg Swartz of bleacher report published an article talking about nba stars and players most likely to hit the 2022-23 nba trade bloc and in that article both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were talked about because although Kevin Durant did go back on his trade request you have to wonder if things go wrong would he want out again by the trade deadline or would he want out in the 2023 off season causing Kyrie Irving to leave as well regardless.
I think that this could lead to an opportunity for the lakers especially if Kyrie Irving ended up being available for a trade during the season because right now the lakers don't really have any trade offers that they like when it comes to Russell Westbrook at least that's what's being reported and it looks like they could move into the season with Russell Westbrook still on the roster.
So with that the lakers could end up looking to make a move at the trade deadline if things don't work out, like i said the lakers could be looking to make a move and if the Brooklyn nets wanted to trade Kyrie Irving at the trade deadline with teams knowing that kyrie's a 2023 free agent.
Maybe they wouldn't be willing to trade too many players or picks to add kyrie to their roster and with that the lakers could definitely use for some improvement because it seems like nba executives and agents aren't really thinking the lakers are going to do the best in this upcoming season.
With their current roster and a trade for kyrie at the deadline could change everything if they were able to make it happen and with the Brooklyn nets if they're in that situation i think that the lakers could end up trading Russell Westbrook and maybe only one future first-round pick to add kyrie because at that point kyrie's a 2023 free agent not too far down the line so the nets would probably be happy just to get a pick if kyrie won it out and was on that expiring deal.
That's where i think the lakers could make a big move is at the trade deadline even if it's not for Kyrie Irving if the lakers don't trade Russell Westbrook and then wait till the trade deadline to make something happen they have those future first round picks that are going to be pretty valuable considering the fact that teams probably aren't optimistic about what the lakers are going to be doing in 2027 and 2029 they probably think the lakers won't be doing well after LeBron James ends up ultimately leaving the lakers or retiring and you look at Anthony Davis he could have left the lakers by then and even if he's still on the team he would be older.
So i think that teams could really value those picks and that could put the lakers in a good position to make a trade but maybe they waited out and by the trade deadline they could get a better trade for Russell Westbrook that they feel could help them compete.
